Soucek deal to wait despite rumours

Talk about bad timing!

Less than 24 hours after West Ham’s accounts for the year showed massive losses and  turndown in business – along with all other clubs – comes a story from Football Insider that Tomas Soucek is to be offered a new deal!

This is written despite the fact that:

Tomas Soucek’s current deal runs until 2024 and has a year’s option attached so there’s absolutely no requirement to stretch finances even further when there are summer signings and their wages to be found!

Our own insiders tell us there’s no requirement to do anything at this stage given that and we can confirm the suggestion that Manchester United are interested is not the case.

Our own northern correspondent Terry Robbins reported yesterday that United’s priority signing this summer is Jack Grealish which can only happen if they manage to sell Paul Pogba first.

United – like all other clubs – are in big trouble and the Hammers aren’t in the business of handing out big new deals to players at this stage when they need to scrape the barrel for new signings!

Here’s their current position:

Turnover dropped £51.2m (26.8%)  from £190.7m to £139.5m

TV income fell by £45m (35.3%) from £127.4m to £82.5m

O  Ticket income fell by £4.9m (17%) from £27.4m to £22.5m

O Commercial and sponsorship including corporate hospitality fell by £1.5m (4.6%) from £27.4m to £25.9m

Retail and shop sales fell by £200,000 £8.7m to £8.5m

O The club published a loss of £65m an increase of 132.3% on the £28m lost from the previous 2018/2019 season.

Such as Soucek, Couval, Rice and Bowen are all in line for new deals but there’s no urgent requirement this summer with new signings and their wages.
