Southgate reveals why he ditched Antonio

Gareth Southgate has given his reasons for leaving Michail Antonio out of his latest England squad for the games against Scotland and Spain .

The wanabee England full time boss said: “”We are fortunate we have some very good players in those positions,” said Southgate. “We have strength in depth and competition for places.

Antonio and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were the two players dropped, with the interim manager revealing it had been difficult to break the news to the pair over the phone.
He said: “Any of those guys could force their way into the squad. I had to take the decision for the games on Friday and Tuesday and that was the balance of squad we wanted.
