Sporting Lisbon boss Jorge Jesus has paved the way for William Calvalho to leave the club.

And the Portuguese media are widely reporting that the 25 year old midfielder is now on his way to West Ham.

ClaretandHugh confirmed earlier this afternoon the Hammers had made a record 30 million euros bid for the player and that Sporting Clube  de Portugal – internationally known as Sporting Lisbon – are close to agreeing a deal.

The Hammers would land a stunning coup were the player to arrive at the London Stadium and this afternoon it was becoming increasingly apparent that may well be the case.

ClaretandHugh Facebook Group member  Nuno Moreira de Almeida – a Hammers and Lisbon fan based in Lisbon  – who watches the Portuguese team every week during the season –  revealed: ” Jorge Jesus has signed Argentine Rodrigo Battaglia to assume the William Carvahlo’s role in the team.

“Most journalists here are now reporting that William is on his way to West Ham. Remember too he is a European champion with the Portuguese national team.

I would say he has been waiting for a big transfer for at least two years. Last year, after Portugal won the European championship, William asked to leave but the Sporting president managed him to stay for one more season

He is a great player. I watch William every other  week in Sporting stadium – I am also a long time Sporting fan – and he is pure class!”
