The fate of the Champions Statue on the corner of Barking Road and Green Street will be decided at a Newham Council full cabinet meeting on Thursday 22nd March 2018 at 5 p.m.

The cabinet chaired by the Mayor of Newham and self-confessed West Ham fan Sir Robin Wales will vote with his cabinet members on the proposal to relocate the Bronze state featuring Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst to the London Stadium on a plinth waiting in Champions place.

West Ham initially contributed £325,000 to the statue with a further £400,000 coming from a government grant arranged by Newham but the statue needs to move somewhere as the whole junction will be redeveloped as part of the Upton Gardens re-development of the area.

Local traders want to keep the statue and a majority of West Ham supporters appreciate to support local people to keep the statue where it is.  West Ham have offered to pay for the removal and relocation of the statue that Newham would otherwise have to pay when the junction is changed.
