Striker chase poses a question

Anderson is perfectly capable of playing as a striker.

Manuel Pellegrini is allegedly on the hunt for another striker ahead of the transfer window closing next Thursday.

Time is getting short and a few worried frowns are appearing but should we fail to sign a frontman I can’t believe it will be some sort of disaster.

No doubt there will be a heavy discussion about it as deadline day draws nearer but the question really is whether a backup striker is really necessary. Let’s examine the situation!

Excluding the injured Carroll, we have Chicharito, Arnautovic and Martinez who are all out and out strikers and having watched a lot of Italian football I can promise you that Felipe Anderson is also capable of playing in that role.

In his final appearance for Lazio against Inter Milan, he was deployed in the position and scored in a 2-3 defeat.

In fact, like Arnie, the club’s record signing can play right across the front line which brings a new and more versatile application to the team.

We also have Michal Antonio who has done a very decent job in the role and although some will argue that Martinez is not ready only time will prove that.

I think we have enough and it would be good to see the young Spaniard getting a chance here and there ( remember his goal against Mainz?). Promoting youth in most cases should be encouraged!

We are apparently open to offers for Jordan Hugill but with no clear interest we should assume he will still be with us for now.

Even without Hugill and Martinez we still have four players who can play as a striker and that’s not including Carroll. So maybe our chase for a back up really isn’t as urgent as some are believing.
