Sullivan breaks Byram silence

West Ham Chairman David Sullivan has told Sky Sports News the finer detail of the Sam Byram switch from Leeds.

And it became clear during a riveting watch that his ‘take’ on the situation coincided with the reports ClaretandHugh has been bringing you over the last few days.

The chairman said: “Originally we were going to do nothing, that was the plan because good clubs do their spending in the summer and we really haven’t got any money to spend.

“We hoped to sign Sam Byram in the summer when he was out of contract at Leeds and in the last few days it looked like he was going to Everton so we realised it was now or never.

“We had to pitch in and attempt to sign him and hopefully that will go through in the next 24 hours. Everything is in agreement with him and the club.

I would not normally say this but the Leeds chairman has made this public. I think it is wrong to mention what you are doing until it is actually done.

“If they are happy for it to be public we are happy for it to be public. We have agreed terms with Leeds, we have agreed terms with the player and hopefully that will go through in the next 24 hours.”
