So Dimi Payet has been sold for an initial transfer fee of £25m but before we start to spend the cash it worth pointing out that the payments from Marselle are probably staggered over three years.

That’s the same as approach as when we purchased Dimi in 2015 for £10.7m. In fact it is believed we still owe Marseille several million pounds from the original deal which will now be offset against today’s sale.

Marseille will probably make a down payment of £8.3m with the same amount  due in one year’s and two years time. This is the way business is done in modern football  and the Fonte and Snodgrass are most likely structured in the same way with staggered payments to Southampton and Hull.

In the last set of West Ham financial accounts published in 2016 for 2015 the Hammers owed more than £23m to other clubs in staggered transfer fees and this is likely to grow when new accounts are released next month.

On the top of the £25m transfer fee, there is thought to be up to £5m of potential add-ons but equally the 25% sell on fee could bring in a similar amount so the amount could equally reach £30m.

West Ham have reportedly asked for the return of a one million loyalty bonus which could bring the total £31m.

West Ham will also save up to £29m in wages over the four and a half years that it would have paid Payet.  These wages can now be re-invested elsewhere and are likely to fund two possibly three players for the same budget.
