West Ham’s hopes of landing a 20 goals a season striker next season will be hit by a massive wages factor.

David Sullivan told Sky Sports yesterday (Mon) in a wide ranging interview that a top striker was the main priority this summer.

But he has already been warned that such a player could easily cost up to £130k a week in wages which with a minimum £20 million transfer fee would see the package over four years rocket to around £50 million.

Sullivan has already informed agents of his top requirement but one – who preferred to remain anonymous – told ClaretandHugh tonight: “It going to be a tough call. Maybe the club has that sort of cash available – they are certainly going to need it.

Andy Carroll – £17 million – is on nearly £90k a week – so a guaranteed 20 a season a man could cost £40k or £50k a week more.

“A lot of agents are on the look out for the club but it’s certainly not going to be an easy brief to fulfil.”
