Top clubs have been considering a move for Declan Rice have cooled their interest big time given the costs involved in taking the Hammers England international from the London Stadium.

West Ham currently have a £70 million price tag on the defensive midfielder which will grow year on year and with add ons over a four year deal the fee could rise to £100 million plus.

But the costs don’t end there because players commanding that sort of transfer fee also want wages which reflect that sort of worth and in Declan’s case that could be as much as £150k to £200k a week.

And were he to be offered the £200,000k a week over a four year contract that would see a club splashing out around £40m for the player

Only one of the elite European clubs – Barca, Man City, Man U Real Madrid or PSG could afford that but City’s focus is elsewhere on the likes of Atletico Madrid ace Rodri whilst United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has nothing like a sufficient budget this season and has had to trim his expectations

Sources have regularly confirmed to ClaretandHugh that Rice will not be leaving this summer and and that they have not received an enquiry for the player.

The club’s powerbrokers know the numbers can only grow over the next two or three years and the player is more than happy to remain at the club.
