The smart money is on Benrahma joining Irons

As a betting man my money would is on the bloke from Brentford becoming an Iron.  I think that’s where the smart money is now heading.

We have three days or less to wait for the outcome to this latest Irons saga and, as is always the way, twists and turns will inevitably emerge – that’s a Hammers given.

But it will come as a surprise to me personally should the club fail to clinch a deal which is now a long way down the road. Clubs and agents don’t get into such intensive talks if it’s not being treated seriously

CandH was told earlier today the Brentford “broken promises” issue, which have been cited as the reason for the hold up in completion, have now been cleared up.

The way any extras are paid by the Irons on top of the basic fee of around £20 million to get the price up to £30 million still has to be sorted.

Josh King hasn’t quite left the building but Benrahma appears to have the edge.

There are stories around this evening that crisis talks will be held tomorrow and that King is being prepared to join.

That’s really not what we are hearing but hey there are no certainties in this game until medical is complete, the player signs on the dotted line and a picture of him wearing a West Ham shirt is published on the club website.

Yes, we need a central striker but the fact that intensive talks have been going on for several days now with Benrahma’s representatives suggests the club are serious about him.

Let’s HOPE so!

At £30 million – after just one very good CHAMPIONSHIP season – it will be a gamble but I’m not sure we would have come this far if it’s not one David Moyes and the board aren’t prepared to take.

We’ll see but I’m now reasonably confident – no more than that – the Algerian will be wearing claret and blue soon
