The West Ham window countdown starts

So as was widely expected it will be a very quiet West Ham transfer window following the breakdown of talks between Chelsea and ourselves over the Michy Batshuyai 12 week loan deal.

Had we managed to get rid of Chicharto, Lucas Perez or both then maybe a deal would have been on but adding £170k personal terms to the wage bill with million in loan costs and agent’s fee of £3 million made it a non starter.

So unless something entirely unexpected crops up over the next few hours we are hearing that the Hammers will now soldier on with the players they have.

And that will mean Samir Nasri will have been our only arrival on a free transfer and Reece Oxford will be Germany bound on loan to Augsburg.

There had been some interest in Hernandez from Valencia but the Hammers were unready to sell at £7 million and the suggestions that Chelsea’s Olivier Gerard could be on his way for six months was never a starter.

It now seems certain it will be a very quiet evening but you never ever know. This is football’s deadline day after all!
