The West Ham/Millwall draw that never was

West Ham were drawn against Millwall at home at the London Stadium in the rehearsal of the FA Cup draw yesterday. To the relief of police and both clubs, the Hammers drew Shrewsbury away when the draw was repeated for real.

The London rivals last met in 2011 and 2012 when West Ham dropped down to the Championship but most people remember the August night in 2009 at the Boleyn Ground during a Carling second-round tie. The match was won by the Hammers side 3–1 after extra time, but the game was marred by pitch invasions and disorder in the streets outside the ground, where a Millwall supporter was stabbed. More than 20 other people were injured and dozens were arrested. Both West Ham and Millwall were charged by the FA with offences related to the match.
