Gianluca Scamacca made a very reasonable impression as he arrived on the pitch for his first appearance in claret and blue and afterwards expressed his delight with the club’s fans.

The new striker showed what he is about with a fierce downward header which was of course offside before displaying movement, positioning and pace which augurs well.

Obviously it would be silly to give a serious opinion on the basis of a 35 minute appearance as sub but he really does look like an athletic addition to whom the Premier League is not going to present too many problems.

As a first appearance for a new club against one of the world’s top teams this was an appearance full pf promise and he certainly looks an exciting prospect ahead of the game at Nottingham Forest next weekend.

The No7 did not give the ball away once on his West Ham debut, while he also won three of his four aerial battles and gave Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake plenty to think about.

And speaking afterwards to www,whufc.com he said: “The fans were amazing. We were sad because we didn’t take the three points, but I think the team worked and gave everything.

“I have never experienced anything like that noise from the fans before. This is so good, this is so good, and I hope I can give them a goal as soon as possible.”

“I had a big chance and he made a big save, but sadly I was offside. Manchester City are one of the best teams in the world and we tried to make the best, but now it’s gone and we will think about the next game.

“We will think about the next game, so let’s keep working and give everything and we can win this.”
