Norwich City 0 West Ham United 1

Make no mistake, we saw the start of something which looks pretty big at Carrow Road tonight.

For at the end of this enthralling 90 minutes we’d all forgotten this was a friendly – the Hammers were creating a new dawn and it was thrilling to watch.

From the moment Dimi Payet (above right) appeared in the second half things changed with the Frenchman playing the kind of defence splitting balls we haven’t seen in these part for far too long.

And when the 82nd minute winner came it was fitting that it should be him who set it up with a near post ball after some fine work which was eased in by Reece Oxford.

It was a night too for the youngsters as apart from the 16 year old’s goal, Doneil Henry (below right) had been utterly outstanding at the heart of defence in the first half.

And at one point he’d shown some serious samba skills to send the travelling faithful into a delirium of applause. So refreshing – truly wonderful.

All this West Ham Way stuff suited Mauro Zarate down to the ground as he pushed forward and could easily have had a couple of goals.

Ok at the end of the day it was a freindly but this was a West Ham performance the ike of which we haven’t seen for a long time with balls being played to feet and nobody scared to play a possession game.

The Slaven Bilic penny is obviously starting to drop as far as the new way is concerned and it was great to see.
