Top prospect Ashby injury update

Amidst all the David Sullivan moaning and groaning this morning one piece of good news at least.

Young Harrison Ashby – who was drafted into last night’s Hammers team so successfully – will be back in training this week after badly spraining a finger against Hull City last night and leaving the action in the second half.

The young central defender took his chance when Issa Diop was forced to withdraw from the team after testing positive for COVID 19.

And as had been the case in the second-round game against Charlton when appearing for the last ten minutes, the Kent-born 18 year old looked a prospect to savour.

He’s unlikely to be involved in the squad for the game against Wolves on Sunday but on the basis of what we have seen so far this campaign in only two games, he looks a first-team cert sometime later this season or next.

A Hammers insider told us: “He was in a lot of pain but the problem was sorted in the dressing room to a large extent after the game and he will be back in training this week.”
