Manuel Pellegrini would have no shortage of strikers entering the final year of their current deals were he to try bringing in extra cover up front.
Whilst – as reported – he will give Michail Antonio – plenty of opportunity to prove himself, there remain some targets who would not only provide top cover but provide competition to our front two of Chicharito and Marko Arnauotovic.
Here are six who would certainly be worth more than a second look:
Oliver Giroud has been amazing for Chelsea and for World Cup winners but even with Pellegrini at our helm looks well out of reach.
Danny Welbeck: Would be a top signing but with our big business now done falls into the “highly unlikely ” category
Daniel Sturridge: Linked with us many times but injuries have knocked him right out of the picture at Liverpool and a high risk proposition
Fernando Llorente: Has never quite hacked it at Sp..s but could be an interesting punt at around £15 million
Fedor Smolev: At one time looked as though he was on his way to us and would surely be on the boss’ list at around £12 million.
Mario Balotelli: Mentioned many times and a friend of Arnie but would surely bring too much baggage for the new manager.
There are other who include Divock Origi (Liverpool), Wilfried Bony (Swansea), and Jose Salomon Rondon (West Brom).
