West Ham’s squad learned the truth of what lies in front of the,m this afternoon when hardman David Moyes snapped: ” If they don’t do the running, they’re not playing. “

A very new regime is about to create a few shockwaves among a squad which has looked lethargic and sub standard in the fitness stakes for months.

And there will be no prisoners taken as the Scot demands more and mer this next few wore from the players over this next few weeks.

Discussing his appointment he said: ‘It’s good for me. I’m back in. It’s what I love doing. I wanted to get back. I want to do well. It’s also good for West Ham. They’ve got a good manager.

‘I’ve got a point to prove. Sometimes you have to repair things. Maybe I’ve got a little bit to repair.

I’m taking over a great football club. It used to be one of the most fearsome places to come play football. Going to Upton Park was a really, really tough place to go.

‘I don’t see why it should be any different now (at the London Stadium). This is a squad that shouldn’t be in the position they’re in.’

Then came the warning: ‘There will be no favours. If they don’t do the running, they’re not playing.

‘You see the turnover of managers at the moment. I’m taking over a couple of months into the season and I’m happy to go until the end of the season.

‘I was contacted just after the weekend. I was out in Qatar doing some TV. Was there interest? I said yes very quickly. That was how it started. A couple quick meetings and I found myself here at the start of the weekend.’
