An insider who has been close to the deal explained on the ‘phone that Valencia will pay €16 million (£14.4m) plus striker Santi Mina valued €22m (£2om) and a youth player on loan for two years.
The total deal should be worth around £35m but Valencia and Celta Vigo have allegedly valued Mina at €1m (£900,000) thus reducing Celta’s liability on a sell-on fee and Valencia’s commission to Gomez’s agents.
Defensor Sporting Club sold Gomez to Celta Vigo for just €4 million (£3.6m) in 2017 with a 25% sell-on clause on the profit.
With the total deal devalued to £15.3m Defensor Sporting Club will get around £2.9m of the transfer.
If the £45.8m West Ham deal had gone through then Defensor Sporting Club could have received around £10.5m from the transfer.
The same can be said about the agent’s commission with Valencia said to be paying around 10% (€1.7m) compared to the €3m West Ham were offering to pay.
