Valencia to learn from London Stadium mistakes

Valencia owner Peter Lim has asked to meet with directors and managers from West Ham involved in the move to the London Stadium to learn from their mistakes.

Los Che are preparing to leave the Mestalla stadium and Super Deporte says Lim is keen to set up meetings with West Ham to discuss their experience of leaving Boleyn Ground for the London stadium and what lessons were learnt and ask what would they do differently with hindsight.

Lim is keen to avoid the same misfortune. Valencia have already appointed a supporters chief in order to protect the atmosphere for the relocation. Valencia has recently presented fresh plans for their proposed new stadium as they look to get the project back on track.

Work on the 65,000-capacity Nou Mestalla first began in August 2007, but construction came to a grinding halt in February 2009, as the La Liga side were impacted by the global financial crisis. The stadium had been earmarked to open in time for the 2009-10 season, but no work has been undertaken on the not-even half-finished site for more than eight years. An attempt to get the project back underway in 2013 stalled, but the club have re-started negotiations with Valencia’s city council.
