Hammers striker target Maxi Gomez grabbed a goal in Celta Vigo’s 1-1 draw at Espanyol to give his team renewed hopes of beating the drop.

Before beating fellow relegation rivals Villareal,  Vigo had lost five games from six but Gomez has been a big part of their revival.

The difficult Wednesday night match against Espanyol was made tougher when they fell behind to a goal from Chinese striker Wu Lei before Gomez took a hand in proceedings.

He slotted home a second half equaliser  to make it three goals in his last six outing as his team’s upward curve has continued and keep himself very much on the Hammers radar.

Celta are  two points clear of the relegation places and are in the best form of the candidates for the drop which means the Irons will need to shell out €43.5 million should they retain their La Liga status rather than the €22m should they go down.
