Vote of confidence rings of board bravado

So finally comes the dreaded vote of confidence aimed at quietening down the speculation over Slaven’s future.

There’s only one flaw in the thinking… it usually creates exactly the opposite reaction and we can assume that the discussion over our much-liked manager will now gain even more pace.

Claiming – as the statement does – to have “100 per cent faith” in the boss when you have just seen the gap narrow at the bottom to six points after being beaten by the 18th placed team is a bit of bravado which reads well but convinces nobody.

Yes, of course we are all looking for a shock win or point on Wednesday at Arsenal and another 3 points at the weekend but I don’t think any of us have “100 per cent confidence” that will actually happen.

I’ve never fully understood votes of confidence unless you are a total cynic and believe the board has issued it to ensure we all know that the end is nigh!

It would be so West Ham for us to beat Arsenal and Swansea and I have been around the Irons block too many times to discount anything.

But a vote of confidence? I’m afraid it does nothing for me… only a couple of wins or minimum of five points from the next three games will do that.

Let’s finish this on a positive note. We may only be six points off the bottom but we are also only three off ninth place!

So are we half full or half empty – you can make up your own minds.
