Hammers board may find window plans inhibited

A threat that the Hammers and Southampton could see transfer  activity hit has been suggested as a live possibility when the window finally comes around.

The Irons squad followed Saints pay cut decision to ease the club’s financial troubles by taking a two month deferral on wages.

Now – according to The Times – there’s a growing feeling in the game that this should ensure that they are not allowed to add to their wage bill by bringing in new players.

It may be the latest twist in a situation where there seems to be no solution to the problems which are savaging the game – along with everybody else.

However, it’s a distant threat at the moment given that there is absolutely no sign of this season being completed or indeed the opening of the transfer window opening anytime soon.

And regardless even of that there is unlikely to be any real action in. the transfer window anyway with clubs finding it impossible to find new money for wages and transfer fees.

The Times claims : Clubs who are deferring wages in the health crisis could face spending restrictions until players are paid the money they are owed. 

Talks have already taken place at EFL board level after the Professional Footballers’ Association raised the matter. 

There is a groundswell of feeling that clubs who have chosen to delay paying players’ salaries during the health crisis should not be allowed to add to their wage bill until squad members have been reimbursed.”
