The Hammers are closing in on the signing of Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo and he looks set to fit right in at the London Stadium.

The club have a terrible track record when it comes to buying strikers but it looks like Scamacca knows exactly what will be required for him to be a hit in David Moyes’ side.

During his time with Sassuolo, he has routinely played as the lone striker in either a 4-2-3-1 formation or a 4-3-3. He scores goals either way.

Last season, he netted 16 times and the firebrand forward also picked up a total of seven yellow cards. He throws himself in at the deep end throughout every game he plays, and is clearly incredibly passionate about winning football matches.

He is already an Italy international, with seven caps to his name, and this is not a player who has previously thrived in a two-man strike partnership, as Seb Haller did at Eintracht Frankfurt before flopping in claret and blue.

Boss David Moyes has clearly identified Scamacca as a player who can come in and hit the ground running.

It feels very likely that, because of the investment, he will be playing regularly, with Mikey Antonio potentially dropping into the back-up role.

But one thing seems certain: Scamacca is coming to score goals.
