West Ham ban stands – no roll over

West Ham’s one-match ban of away fans in the Europa League will count despite the game now being played behind closed doors after the Austrian government decided to enforce a national lockdown from Monday.

West Ham fans were banned from attending Rapid Vienna away and the club was fined £29,000 by Uefa after Genk crowd trouble.

Two flares were thrown onto the pitch after Benrahma’s second goal, which cost West Ham £4,000.

But the other £25,000 penalty is following ‘crowd disturbances’ in the match, Uefa announced.

Claret and Hugh have seen video footage that appears to show supporters walking through open gates in Genk as well as a small scuffle with Belgium police after the game which appears to confirm the allegations.

As a result, Uefa prohibited away fans from attending the European clash in Austria.

Claret and Hugh understand that the ban will not be rolled over to a future game and the sanction will be deemed served on Thursday despite no fans from either side present.
