Senior football writer for the Athletic Daniel Taylor has confirmed stories of West Ham being in for Matty Cash, of Nottingham Forest, are true saying the Hammers opening offer of £10m paid in instalments fell way short though of getting a deal done (Milan have already put together a structured package worth £15m). Other clubs have shown interested too he adds.

Sky Sports also claims West Ham have made an offer rising to £12m for the Nottingham Forest right-back.

They claim Hammers have bid an initial £10m with £2m more in add-ons – but they face competition from AC Milan and Southampton, among other clubs. Nottingham Forrest are though to want around £18m and are unlikely to let him go on the cheap during the winter transfer window.

He would prefer to stay in England rather than a move to Italy.

The versatile 22-year-old midfielder has excelled this season in an unfamiliar right-back role, with Sabri Lamouchi having moved Cash back into that position following Tendayi Darikwa’s injury.
