West Ham United will not be liable for the increase in electricity and gas costs at the London Stadium as the new energy costs go through the roof.

The Hammers concessionaire agreement signed in 2013 with the London Legacy Development Corporation does not permit the public landlords to pass through increase in wholesale prices.

Many Premier League clubs face increase in energy bills in hundreds of thousands and maybe millions to heat and light their massive stadia.

Football clubs use grow lights overnight to maintain the grass, floodlights on match days as well as heating and lighting the enormous stadia

Wholesale energy prices have increased by over 60% due to a number of factors but the pandemic and the Russia/Ukraine conflict has made matters far worse.

While West Ham will not be forking out for the increase in power bills, ultimately London taxpayers will.

The London Stadium loses as much as £30m per year and the increase in energy bills will only make the situation worse this year.
