ClaretandHugh’s off the wall blogger PETE ELLIS takes his sideways look at the Hammers week that was!

Majestic Mr Payet…step forward Pedro

What an amazing week…West Ham didn’t lose!

I’ve not been this happy since I was diagnosed with kidney stones!
In all seriousness, Payet’s goal was majestic.  We’ve not seen such a mesmerising run since the days of Dale Gordon tearing down the wing, planting one on Lee Chapmans head, then watching his effort go out for a throw…..
It was the Frenchman  at his best.
Sadly there were still a number of others some way from their best, although Obiang clearly has to get game time after that performance.
He doesn’t do the last ditch lunging tackle, or the sliding challenges that other do in the middle of the part, simply because he stops things from getting that far. Nicks it and plays it, and given our dismal run that was exactly what we need.
Karen develops foot in mouth
Karren Brady has has successful surgery to remove her foot from her mouth, and all at CandH wish her well.
I do jest of course, as it’s clear she was talking about the business culture of West Ham’s administration rather than the look and traditions of Dagenham Dave and Pete from Plaistow etc.
To be fair, whether its playing a cup tied manny Omiy-wotsisname, or renting Tevez and Mascerano from a Hertz rent a car, she probably had a point.
Some would argue that she’s not covered herself in glory with the move, but I wouldn’t  dare comment….this is after all a swear free zone.
She’s the victim of some very calculated (mis)quotes.
Much the same way as Mr Sullivan was apparently  misquoted about this 40m striker……where ever did we get that idea from?
So how about a happy birthday to absolutely every Hammer….!
I have mellowed in my 30s and I am delighted that West Ham’s official Twitter account were good enough to wish Hammers legend, Jermaine defoe a happy 34th birthday.
He’s always been a favourite of mine. I suggest you watch his sitcom, Diff’rent Strokes, it’s a classic.
I look forward to West Ham wishing Mr Ince, Young Frank, and Joey Beachump the very best in the coming weeks too.
Whoever said the powers that be were out of touch with us mere customers, (er I mean fans.)
Valencia’s near Bond audition!
Anyway, before I depart, it would like like to congratulate enner valence a  (or emmer Dale as my auto correct keeps telling me) a on a spectacular getaway.
Escaping via golf cart and ambulance whilst at an international match is almost the stuff of Bond villain
If he could only evade defenders like he evades the Ecuadorian authorities, he may well have made it in East London.
Anyway, that’s it from me, enjoy the internationa break, as Andy and Aaron will hopefully be back for Palace, and if that doesn’t excite you, this may.
West ham will be unbeaten for two weeks the first time this season…..!
