Edi Fernandes and Jordan Hugill were both absentees from yesterday pre-season friendly with Preston North End with small knocks but the injuries of two which could go this summer are not said to be serious.

Aaron Cresswell hasn’t quite recovered from a groin strain which kept him out of the game against Wycombe Wanderers but he trained last week and is said to be close to a return as early as Wednesday when the Hammers face Aston Villa.

Ryan Fredericks recovered from a sore foot last week and played all 90 minutes of the match at Preston despite internet rumours that his injury was more serious.

After missing last week’s game Jack Wilshere was deemed match fit enough to play 45 minutes to make his debut yesterday but it was too early for Fabian Balbuena and Felipe Anderson who remained In London to work on their fitness.

Łukasz Fabiański, Javier Hernandez and Cheik Kouyate report back for training on Monday but face the standard tests and weigh-ins before joining the full squad and then face intense fitness training so they are unlikely to join the squad on the trip to Aston Villa.
Michail Antonio continues to recover from his operation on his hamstring, he is aiming to get match fit for the first game of the Premier League season.

Long-term absentees are Andy Carroll who suffered discomfort in his ankle after the game in Switzerland, he requires minor surgery on the ankle to stabilise it and he is likely to be out between three and four months.

Winston Reid hasn’t recovered properly either and faces a new knee operation, while it is too early to say the latest is estimate is he could be out anywhere between three and nine months.

Manuel Lanzini continues to recover from his ACL operation from an injury he suffered in the World Cup warm-up for Argentina. He optimistic of an early return next year but estimates of his return vary between six and twelve months.
