West Ham needed to sell 33,000 tickets just to break even at the London Stadium for Saturday’s Betway Cup against Athletic Bilbao.

The official attendance revealed at 38,873 at the weekend meant which the Hammers managed to earn a small profit from the final pre-season friendly.

As the friendly is not classed a competitive game West Ham must play the stadium owners for any out of pocket expenses. Under West Ham’s London Stadium concessionaire agreement the club have to pay all the opening and running costs of the stadium on a pre-season mathc day.  The Hammers also paid an additional fee of £130,000 directly to Athletic Bilbao for taking part.

The fee paid to West Ham for participating in the Asia Trophy in China fully funded West Ham’s two pre-season summer camps in Austria as well as fully funding the China trip itself together with all expenses.
