West Ham midfielder of the season revealed

Declan Rice has been crowned the best West Ham midfielder of the season by Claret and Hugh readers. With 1,311 readers voting in the West Ham defender of the season poll, Declan polled an impressive 936 votes (71.4%) making him easily the outright winner.

Rice joined West Ham Academy in 2015 after being released by Chelsea youth in 2014 and received his first team call up in 2017.

Despite playing 32 appearances for West Ham last season mostly in defence Rice’s future was still in doubt at the beginning of this season as he remained on a £3,000 per week contract plus appearance bonuses. In December last year, Rice signed a new long term contract until 2024, with the club also retaining an option to extend it for a further year. This season also saw his debut for England first team.

Mark Noble was the runner up in the midfielder poll with 173 votes (13.2%)
