West Ham pay £140m to fund players running cost

A new summary of West Ham’s financial accounts has been published by PriceOfFootball.com  this week. The wide-ranging and in-depth article points out that West Ham’s wage bill rose by 12% to £95 million in 2017. They say it’s a significant increase and puts the club ahead of some of its rivals, but is still behind Everton (£105m) and Leicester (£112m).

The amortisation charge (accounting for the cost of total transfer fees over a period of time) has increased too, and if the two elements of player costs are added together then West Ham have doubled their player running costs over the last five years from £70 million to £140 million!

The cost of renting the London Stadium has also been pointed out in the report suggesting the net cost was around £2m for last year. Although the rental price is known to be £2.5m in the contract this is reduced as part of a catering profit share which suggests that West Ham received a half a million discount as part of that deal last season.
