West Ham hierarchy are refusing to give up on bringing Maxi Gomez to East London even though the odds are stacked against them.

Claret and Hugh have been told by a senior source close this afternoon that the Hammers have ‘Put in a massively improved bid to Celta Vigo’  while refusing to reveal the exact amount on the offer made. The insider said that “We’ve still not given up on Maxi Gomez!”

Sky Sports are reporting the improved bid matches the £44.5m release fee with Kaveh Solhekol saying “West Ham have offered the €50m release clause for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez. Discussions ongoing over payment structure. Release clause cannot be triggered until full amount is lodged at La Liga HQ in Madrid. West Ham proposing to pay the full amount in instalments”

The club source did confirm an earlier report from Spain that Gomez had let it known that he prefers a move to Valencia saying “It’s looking that way but we are battling on!”

A report by Spanish Press in Valencia by EldesMarque said  “Maxi Gómez will be a player of Valencia CF. The Uruguayan forward has opted for the Mestalla set and will become a new player of Valencia CF in the coming days that ends the soap opera. According to sources close to the deal Maxi Gómez has informed West Ham that he will sign for Valencia CF”
