West Ham have struck a canny deal for Leeds right-back Sam Byram according the Daily Express.

The tabloid claims Everton had agreed a £3.7m initial transfer fee with Leeds, with the Toffees paying a further £1.3m in add-ons and bonuses for Byram, bringing the overall fee to around £5m.

The article claims Leeds know they would earn around £2m in compensation if their academy product leaves on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.

West Ham appear to have hijacked the Everton deal much to the annoyance of Leeds owner Massimo Cellino who says West Ham have bid less than Everton’s overall offer but admits he does not control the player so there is little he can do about it.

“I’m really sorry for Everton because they really acted like gentlemen, but Sam chose West Ham,” Leeds owner Massimo Cellino confirmed. “I’ve signed nothing yet but West Ham’s bid is much lower than Everton’s. I don’t control the player. He wants to go, he decides where and when.”
