Why this manager gives Irons ANOTHER big edge

As the dust settles on the Pellegrini appointment one point appears to have remained overlooked !

By and large his arrival has been welcomed in a big way by Hammers fans although social media will always ensure  those with axes to grind will come across louder than those who are content.

As a member of the ClaretandHugh Facebook group said this morning: “A comment at 8 am becomes a war cry by 4pm.”

However, there’s no denying that in the former Real Madrid manager – when have we been able to say that before? – we have a bloke of huge status and that is going to be a major plus in the summer window.

After all if this guy, with his reputation and record comes after you as a player, then he is clearly a bloke you would want to play for which will give us a head start over most clubs outside the top six.

And that in itself will be a great start because I fully expect a top ten, even top eight, finish next season with greater progress again in the second and third.

Having a manager who can attract top names is essential and for the first time in many years – remember Grant, Allardyce, Bilic and Moyes – we have that man.

Social media being social media the first shout raised will be that he is unlikely to have the funds despite him and his team costing a total of £11 million a year and the club ready to release around £75 million plus any money from player sales this summer.

That could bring it to around £100 million – almost double the £52.7 million spent by Arsenal last season.

I think Mr Pellegrini could make that go quite a long way.
