David Moyes has confirmed that Jack Wilshere rolled his ankle in training on Tuesday so missed out on the League Cup through injury last night.

Wilshere has been linked to a move to Italian Seria A club Genoa or the MLS in recent weeks and last week the the Daily Mail claimed that West Ham are in discussions with the midfielder to cancel his contract by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2018, after his contract had expired with Arsenal.  The 34-capped England international’s time at the London Stadium has been blighted by injuries.  Wilshere has made just 16 appearances for West Ham, racking up just one goal and one assist.

Last week David Moyes says he knows nothing about cancelling Jack Wilshere’s contract saying he had been good in training.

Asked about reports in a virtual pre-match press conference via Zoom the 57-year-old replied “He’s been fantastic in training. I know nothing about that, no.”
