I’ve got to admit that over the first few games he played before injury last season I saw him as not much more than a one trick pony who came in from the right and thumped with his left foot.
It looked great initially but my feeling was that if this was his modus operandi, which appeared to be the case over those first few outings, he’d pretty soon get found out.
Beyond that, I saw little more than a lot of energy but with not perhaps the impact one might expect. Then came the injury which saw him laid off for nearly a season after a delayed start because of a 72 day lay off through a foot problem the previous year in Germany.
On the face of it things didn’t look great for him as he went down with that achilles rupture but he deserves enormous praise for an incredible recovery to become the hero of the moment.
Ok, so it’s another quick judgement but this time allowable perhaps because although it’s only been a couple of games it’s absolutely and abundantly clear what he has in his locker – fantastic movement and a great eye for goal.
I was having a chat with Gonzo earlier and we both agreed that his style of play is very similar to that great former Dutch star Arjen Robben who made a hugely successful out career of playing on the right and coming inside onto his left.
Defenders obviously knew what was coming but time and again found it impossible to stop him . Yarmo may be about to do the same.
Also, as a big 6ft 3in fella he looks a guy, who if we wanted or needed to get him central, could easily become a superior Marko Arnautovic model as for me his is showing the same and perhaps better pace, energy and finishing ability.
Sorry Yarmo I got you all wrong. Just praying you stay fit.
