A table of two leagues

tableWest Ham have jumped two places up the Premier League table to 13th place after the lucky 1-0 win over Hull City this afternoon. Just a few weeks ago we slumped to 18th place and the relegation zone.

The Premier League table is fast becoming a table of two leagues.  Just 11 points cover the bottom 14 clubs. Hull are now bottom of the table for Christmas day on 12 points and a goal difference of -22.

The Hammers jumped up two places to find themselves on 19 points and a goal difference of -12.  Last year’s Premier League champions Leicester City have dropped down to 15th place on 17 points and a goal difference of -6.  West Ham remain just two points behind Watford, Stoke, Southampton and Bournemouth and if results went our way we could easily find ourselves in ninth place after our Boxing Day clash with second from bottom Swansea. Above that group of four teams on 21 points are West Brom and Everton both on 23 points in 7th and 8th place respectively.

If we pull off back to back wins at Leicester on New Years Eve, again with results going our way,  we could find ourselves as high as 7th Place. Unlikely I know but still possible in theory.

Above seventh place is there is a seven point jump to a mini league of clubs fighting for Champions League places. Manchester Utd and Spurs are at the foot of this table on 30 while Manchester City are 4th on 33 with Arsenal and Liverpool both on 34. Chelsea are in a league of their own this year on 43 points 9 ahead of their rivals after 17 games.
