Slowly, the message is getting through to the BBC that the spiralling costs of the London Stadium has nothing to do with West Ham.
My goodness how they have tried to nail us in the past but last night in their latest attempt to smear the club’s part in the deal it was simply becoming clearer and clearer this has nothing to do with us.
They tried so hard with asides such as “West Ham have paid a mere £15 million” as they claimed the the costs could run to millions and millions..
The whole affair is only made sexy by virtue of the fact the name of a Premier League Football Club is associated with the stadium.
And that Gold and Sullivan have stitched up what’s been called the deal of the century is only mentioned in critical fashion rather than being worthy of praise in Beeb terms.
However, it became more and more apparent that this is an issue which can be laid firmly at the door of the politicians and try as anyone may, West Ham are clear of any blame.
Funny how people see this. Some fans see this as the board stitched us up. Most non-west Ham fans and government bodies think the board have negotiated the deal of the century. I’m in the latter category. Bottom line, nobody wanted to discuss the serious legacy issues of the stafium and yet West Ham were always in pole position to make it work. If West Ham did or could walk away, the stadium would rot. I’ve always wondered if in 10-20 years time, the stadium would be levelled for a state of the art football arena but first we need the finance and second, the idea of alternative uses needs to be killed-off.
Indeed. The question of “what would have happened to it if we hadn’t moved in?” is seldom asked or answered.

Somehow I don’t think Dave and Dave would have been as successful in business as they have been if they had gone around saying “we don’t think we’re paying enough for the product/service you’re offering us – have 50% more”. It strikes me as odd that people should criticise what is after all a private business for doing the best deal it can. They’re not the Ministry of Defence you know.
