Fans tell Sullivan: “You’re wrong”

sullivan_5535cWest Ham fans have told David Sullivan he’s wrong to believe we don’t need a £25 million plus striker brought into the club.

The co chairman has so far failed to land a much needed 20 goal a season man and has had bids rejected for Michy Batshuyai and Alexandre Lacazette.

He’s hoping that Carlos Bacca will finally agree to terms of around £90k a week to become the front man he himself claimed was required several months ago.

However, as he waits, Sullivan gave an interview to the media in which he claimed it wouldn’t be a disaster if the club failed to get that player.

He said:”I would say to people if we don’t bring nyone in it is not the end of the world as we were the fourth highest scorers in the league last year. We haven’t lost a striker.”

However, ClaretandHugh readers disagree with his assessment in a new poll which drew around 1,000 votes.

Just over 51 per cent believe the absence of such a player will brng problems, while nearly 45 per cent admitted there would be no great dramas. Nearly four per cent registered a ‘don’t know’ vote.

  1. Or almost half say he is right lol.It is hardly a landslide victory for The Wrong Party.

  2. We scored 65 goals last season (the 4th highest in the division) of which Sakho and Valencia contributed 9. Goal scoring wasn’t a problem. A 20 goal striker would obviously help , but its not the end of the world.

  3. You’ve gone pretty heavy handed there, Hugh. DS is probably under enough pressure as it is, without over-dramatising the situation!
And personally, I positively DON’T want a demanding Mr Big swaggering around like he’s the big cheese…mention no names, BACCA! Haven’t we learnt ANYTHING from the Sak fiasco? NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB, Sak.
And BACCA is making all these demands BEFORE he’s even come. What is he going to be like afterwards? He’ll make Sak look like a poodle! Ooops sorry, make Sak look even more like the effing poodle that he is!
I do hope DS contacts him and says “Desperation over. Seen the light. Deal’s off. I don’t need your troublesome sh1te about the place afterall”.
I also hope DS goes for these cheaper, hungy ones like Yedder etc…but doesn’t say anyhting till the deal is done!

  4. I could have gone with the headline if it had of been 80% plus of fans but 51%!
That makes the headline majorly harsh!!

  5. Moaning in front the whole world about club’s problems is wrong.Abramovitch will never do something like that…or Glazer brothers..time to grow some balls..and do the job!

  6. Bring in the GOOD deal, yes. Make a crazy desperate buy, NO ! We still have time to get a player on loan, if needed, and we have the youngsters who, despite their young age, might be a revelation. Martinez left sunny mediterranean and the oranges from Valencia in search of development and play time. How about the lad we got from Manure ? As the saying goes, if they are good enough, their age should not be an impediment.

This really is a non problem right now. And Europe is nice, but the focus should remain on the domestic competition. So getting players at all cost is non sense. The owners know it, Bilic knows it, we should acknowledge it too.

  7. I think we all need to keep in mind these are nothing more than gossip columns all trying to score ‘Brownie’ points and treat them as such,.

  8. I just read that Mario Gomez doesn’t want to stay in Turkey because of the political situation and will not stay at Fiorentina either. Could he be the surprise signing ?

    • It would be a good signing,he is on the market for about £6 million I believe.Go get him I say.

      • the way the team is configured we probably could use him at his best. Not a runner or over-impressive technically, but very present close to goal.

  9. Like others have said 51% isn’t a landslide what you can say is it is fairly evenly split. We do need a 20-25 goal striker but if we have to wait to get him it’s not the end of the World, Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that as Slav might say 😉
