David Moyes appears to have given the thumbs up to a move for Jack Wilshere in January
Until now, the Arsenal midfielder – who could appear against the Irons tonight as a replacement for injured Aaron Ramsey – has been furstrated in his hopes for a move to the London Stadium.
But Moyes is very much open to the possibility saying: “Jack Wilshere would be someone who we’d have to look at if he was available.
“I also want to make sure we’re looking at players who can be at the club for a long period and not just in for a short period.
“That’s why those decisions will have to be mutually taken with (head of recruitment) Tony Henry, the chairman and myself to make the right deals.
“I’ve got an idea of where I need to strengthen. We’ve already said there’s a little bit of an imbalance but that can happen at football clubs.
“Could January be the difference between staying up and going down? I do believe it could.
“I think if the right players are available we should try and do something. If we can get the right players, that’s the big part of it.”
I do not think Wiltshire is good enough apart from his injury history he has no pace & he now wants too much space & time to make his pass it is about time we woke up & started buying younger players who will have a resale value after 3 or 4 seasons & not have to be sold off cheap because they are too old. I do not accept the amount of 30 million that is being touted around the media I think if the Right players become available then Sullivan will buy them. iIt would be very stupid and f we got relegated for the sake of a few extra million,The amount the club would lose will dwarf even a 50 million spend
The irony there JRS is that noble won’t be sold but sakho. Ayew , may sell be sold ? Crazy if carried out IMO ! We must keep what we’ve got until the summer and bring in 3-4 players !
Midfield is an area Moyes is hinting at and that will leave noble with a dilemma in the summer , move upstairs or move on !!, the problem is that the board can’t afford to buy unless we sell ! Personally I’m not convinced they will deliver in Jan ? Moyes needs to stamp his feet and tell em to pull the wallet out if we want to stay in the prem ! 30 mill was mentioned but is it enough ? If Moyes is talking Wilshire , carvhalo and a centre half that isn’t near enough , down payment yes ! But the bottom line is sully ! How deep are his pockets and how short are his armslol 😎
Agree with all of that fella.
And like you I don’t think Comrade Sully will deliver, unless he can ship a few out (which we can ill afford, AC notwithstanding).
I don’t think he keeps his wallet in his pocket, more likely in his boot (cuban heeled, natch).
Wilshere when fit is good & has had some good games if late but will he every be the Wilshere of 21 again I dk.
Not my top choice but I would take him on cheap.
But I don’t believe players have to have PL experience they just need to be the right fit.
We need a play maker too
I really like this Mohamed Elynoussoui from Basel Norway Intl 23yo w Pace 5 goals 11 assists! Has scored & assists in CL.
Also like James Madisson from Norwich 21yo English 7 goals 8 assists & has 2 free kick goals in last two weeks which we love.
A lot of good players out there & Lanzini can play deeper role as well & him being around another creator make him better makes team better.
There is a lot of good players out there & we’ve seen players come fit right in from foeigen leagues plant of times then now work from PL clubs.
Just has to be right fit & right staff which our staff has gotten so much better Much more experience characters passion etc.
But this window is very important especially bc seems we will sell 2-3 players as well….
That said if we sell 2-3 is bringing in 2-3 enough!
Top player. I for would be happy if we signed, but given his injury record maybe on a “pay as you play” deal!?
This old chestnut, the ‘elephant in the room’ is his fitness – surely we’ve had our fill of ‘fragile’ players. They’re no good to anybody when they’re not available.
I approve of Bill Shankly and Brian Clough’s attitude to injured players, they both just ignored them and wouldn’t speak to them – when they’re injured players are of no use and a waste of space.
There is no doubt that Wiltshre is a good player but even Arsene Wenger doesn’t trust him – too much of a risk for me!
You mean like Masuaku and Anautovic and Zabaleta ?? . We are at risk when we field Noble , so Wilshere would be a welcome sighning imo .
Well, I thought he did well tonight, a really classy player!
We definitely need more class and creativity in midfield – maybe worth the gamble – I’m willing to change my mind and admit I could be wrong – it wouldn’t be the first time!
Wilshere on form is a world level player, he is a player that can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and win it for a team, one of the only English players around that can do that. We are missing that kind of player, Lanzini for all his skill is not that player yet his stats on goals and assists demonstrate that he creates very few assists and he doesn’t score often enough for his ability level also none of our other midfielders have shown more than a glimpse of creativity, if he was willing to come now that he is fitter we should snap him up, certainly he has an injury history but we will need players this season to lift us up, imho he is one of those.
Let’s not sign anyone else who has a history of fitness problems.
As for Wilshere, I’ve never been impressed by him. Another player, like Hart, who has a big reputation which is not deserved. We must stop buying cast offs
Spot on 101.
He would give us the end product we are missing in the middle of the park if he can get fit and stay fit. He hasn’t been offered a new deal so we should try and approach him, I think Wenger will sell him although they will probably want a decent price for him the fact he is a West Ham fan should work in our favour.
