Vardy looked to be on his way to the Irons

West Ham believed they had clinched a deal to take Jamie Vardy to the club at around £105k a week before they were hit by new inflationary demands in negotiations.

Arsenal are now big favourites to clinch a deal for the Leicester City striker on a deal which is closer to £120k a week.

But ClaretandHugh can reveal the player looked to be on his way to the Olympic Stadium six weeks ago when we understand his advisors had agreed he would sign for around £90k a week plus £15k for every first team appearance.

But when the two sides sat down to iron out the details they were told there was new interest and that a deal would cost them around £125k-£150k a week plus appearance fees.

We believe that Liverpool had also been made aware of his availability but dropped their interest when they were quoted personal terms of £140k a week.

Now the Gooners are close to agreeing a transfer fee of £20 million with City whilst offering the player £120k a week.

A Hammers source told ClaretadHugh: “We thought we had a deal and it came as a surprise when the fee moved up so dramatically – there was a lot going on behind the scenes with other clubs!”

Sorry, I am getting really worried now, prefer Sakho any day. Glad we have dodged this bullet.

  • EastStandTeddy says:

What’s to get worried about. Its summertime, the sun is out so enjoy it.Some of you get far too worked up over what is generally something & nothing. What happens will happen & you having kittens wont change it.Lay back & have a cold beer, you can have no direct effect on anything yourself so lower your blood pressure & relax 😉

  • Radai Lama says:

If John wasn’t worried or did rate a player I would be concerned for his welfare haha He has it written into his C&H contract that he shouldn’t like any player we are after 🙂

    • MonkeysBellend says:

Pearls of wisdom, RL, as ever…(Haha…I can’t do smilies on my computer)

      • EastStandTeddy says:

I see I spoke too soon. One of the pillocks has turned up in the form of a Bellend imposter.Silly little kid, grow up or F Off.I ain’t having my enjoyment reading west ham sites spoiled by cowards like you hiding by your computer being the big mouth.

Ignore the trolls Ted,they are looking for a reaction.Dont give them it.They soon get bored & crawl back under their rocks.

        • EastStandTeddy says:

I know,i know Gobby you are so right but I cannot understand for the life of me what makes people want to make accounts on the internet for the sole intention of causing trouble. It is something I can’t comprehend & seems such a futile exercise. They must have a screw loose is all I can conclude.I mean correct me if I’m wrong but I dont see a continuous assault on their site by trolls.Certainly not 3 or 4 like we have had on here in the last few days.I think it’s time they got a life.

Lol… Teddy you’re a wise man. If I stop and think about what you wrote I feel a little bit like an as##ole… haha you are right, what happens will happen and we have to live with it. I can only say that I trust in Slav 😉

  • Boleyn Boy says:

Glad we didn’t get him, better players around for that sort of money

    • Roman says:

My thoughts exactly Boleyn. We dodged a bullet there and hopefully Benteke will go elsewhere as well.

  • ironswatch says:

he wont get half the goals next year anyway 140 a week no thanks

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

C’est la vie, we are not a big club yet, if he can agree a deal then up the ante we were probably unlikely to ever sign him, there are tossers like him in all walks of life, mostly time wasters to genuine people so we are best off shot of him let the gooners have him. Other than Tore, Icardi and Zaza I haven’t seen any of our forward targets that are much to get excited about

  • Antman says:

I would have taken Vardy, cant believe that some of our fans think our current forwards are so wonderful, they are nothing more than plain average.Players that none of the so called big boys would even bother thinking twice about. In four or five years time if we hopefully progress you will look back on our forwards now for what they are.Similiar to how we now look at Carlton, workmanlike but just not good enough.Take off the claret & blue glasses & they are average, average premier forwards.

  • EastStandTeddy says:

Oh boys I love us armchair fans,we are the ultimate managers. You have Premier League managers who know the game inside out like Wenger & it appears Bilic who want Vardy but according to us he is rubbish, wont score many next season,we dodged a bullet,so on,so on lol.We really are far more knowledgeable than any manager.Love it,just love it,it makes me smile.

    • Roman says:

Yes Teddy opinions are like ars*holes.Everyone’s got one including yours truly.

  • RickHammer says:

Very true Teddy, but we all know or should all know that if we tried managing a club in the PL it would be a total shambles. We would probably have the team relegated by October Lol.Unless of course the players ignored us & did their own thing, then they might be alright.

  • Antman says:

Even if he scores half the amount he scored this season next season it will still be more than any of our ‘Super Strikers’ will manage I bet

  • GW says:

24 goals in a season and we’ve dodged a bullet? Has AC scored 24 goals since he joined us yet lol?

  • TysonM says:

It is funny as it works GW.My favourite on forums is that he is a ‘one season wonder’.Now considering that next season hasn’t even started how the **** does anyone know whether he is a one season wonder or not.

  • StanThe Man says:

Don’t forget he is a racist as well lol though Shinji Okazaki clearly seems to have no problem with it at Leicester or the Thai owners.Certainly less problem with it than some of our all seeing, all knowing fans lmao

  • essexclarets says:

Leicester are going mad, they are looking to sell their crown jewels after the best season they ever had & ever will have. If they want to improve & push on why sell sell sell, there’s talk of letting the stars go but who will want to come? They could pay their players top dollar so it cant be for the money. Dont understand them. PL champs, CL football
Would we sell Payet, Lanzini, Noble, kouyate, Cresswell etc..?? Imho if we are looking for a 15-20 a season striker with PL experience who is better than vardy atm??
    Leicester mad to sell him
WHU mad not to sign him

  • TysonM says:

I suppose there ain’t much they can do if a club meets the price in the clause,i feel bad for Leicester fans, they are going to be raped this summer. The price of success.
It is ****ing funny though when our fans cry about Vardy being a racist.Di Canio wasn’t exactly clean & green in his views & beliefs.Doesn’t count though it appears.

  • IronHammer says:

Pfff… could easily be a game to raise his wages at LCFC. To say”im with Leicester no matter what” and then leave.. no class

  • StanThe Man says:

Arsenal met the clause,he is going to play for a bigger club, whats the big deal.I bet the majority of us would swap LCFC for Arsenal. Its easy to pop at people but if you were in their shoes I bet most of us would do the same. Its easy to preach when it ain’t you in the position.

  • StanThe Man says:

Of course we all know none of you would leave your jobs if someone else offered to double your wages would you lol

    • IronHammer says:

im not blaming him for switching to better options. But if you say something like “Im 100% loyal to the club ” and even ask other players to stay with the club and then leave – it tells its own story. Mahrez, for example didnt say such stuff.

      • StanThe Man says:

I know mate, not taking a swipe at you,its just unfortunately how it is.Loyalty is pretty much dead in the game apart from the odd exception 😉

  • essexclarets says:

l feel a little sorry for leicester, they win the league one season then they could lose alot of the best players they had. No loyalty shown, nobody wanted these players 12 months a go, fast forward a year & wham… show them the money & ‘see ya’
I know most people will change jobs in the real world for extra money but in PL football world most are millionaires already or on their way to be
