Tottenham Hotspur appear to have taken to the media in an effort to signal their ambition to sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

News has emerged of Spurs’ interest in the midfielder, but this is really nothing new.

I wrote on Hammers Chat Patreon yesterday, before the story broke:

“Tottenham did make a preliminary approach for Mateus Fernandes earlier this week, but I was told by an agent that discussions quickly became frustrating because nobody seemed to know exactly who was responsible.”

Spurs Take Their Interest Public

What we are seeing now could simply be the result of those frustrations, as Spurs seek to take their interest public in the hope of kicking a deal into action.

Fernandes’ agent Jorge Mendes is available to speak to, but there is nothing new there because he has already been in discussions with Manchester United and Real Madrid over his client.

That part of the equation is straightforward enough.

West Ham Aren’t Negotiating

The fact remains that there have been no negotiations for West Ham to sell any players.

Firstly, the intent is to retain as many as possible.

But most importantly, the infrastructure simply isn’t yet in place to conduct deals.

As Claret & Hugh have been reporting, the post-Sullivan and post-Brady structure is still being assembled behind the scenes.

Tottenham Will Have To Wait

Whatever Spurs’ intentions, they will find themselves in the same position as everybody else.

West Ham are not actively entering into negotiations and, even if they were, there is still work being done to finalise the club’s new structure.

Tottenham, like Manchester United, Real Madrid and everyone else, will just have to wait.

And perhaps that is exactly the message Daniel Kretinsky wants to send.

The way forward would to be to contact the players agent. It’s that simple. If he can see a deal to be done he’ll push it believe me.

With the 3 promoted clubs untested yet, Spurs are currently the worst team in the Premier League having finished 17th 2 years running. Not sure Fernandez is looking for a relegation hatrick

  • George G says:

WTF would Fernandes or Summerville want to go to Spurs?! Talking about being delusional 🙄😂

  • Smudger says:

Where did Spurs finish, oh yeah above us. (! Point)

Talk about deluded, players will be sold, apart from those who we would struggle to give away, the wage bill alone is staggering, we will have to see what happens fighting to stay in the championship for a few years, it’s going to be a very difficult road ahead .

    Martin Winslade, I do!
I’ve made plans for a few away day forays, regardless of what the team may be.
Those that don’t have any interest in games such as Lincoln aren’t real fans. Next season should sort the wheat from the chaff in that regard. One positive of relegation for me.

As mentioned before, we should NEVER sell to Tottenham under any circumstances!
There are much bigger clubs than them in the frame anyway.

Can’t understand why any of our players want to go to Spuds or ManU. Surely another relegation battle is the last thing they want to get involved in.

Just a note on another subject gonzo alverez played at centre half’s for Mexico this morning and played well could be an asset in the championship.

    • Jeeps says:

      Thought the same.
Let’s see how rest of matches go looks like Mexico will progress.
Two things needs to stay injury free and not pickup any yellow/red cards.

    FACT.
Financial Nightmare when you get Relegated is Never going to change.
Players DON’T want play in division Two……
Fans DON’T want to watch Lincoln .
    Even for £20 ! .
    Unhappy players don’t play well……

Martin, I know that you mean well.
Fact is we go to support the Irons irrespective of who we play against.
Legendary players have laced up and worn the Claret & Blue in div 2.
Brooking, Bonds, Devonshire, L Brady, Carrick I could go on.
I think that I’ve addressed the issue hopefully.
