Burnley boss Sean Dyche has expanded on his comments in which he heaped praise on Grady Diangana’s refusal to play act when he was brought down in the box.
Despite his increasingly desperate position which has seen the Clarets take just one point from the last 12 Dyche was quick to praise the 20 year old despite the missed penalty not affecting the result.
Diangana was clearly fouled – a position supported by TV relays and the team of pundits on Match of the Day who had no hesitation in informing referee Roger East of the fact.
The youngster had burst down the right wing and switched cleverly inside and into the penalty area when he was clearly brought down as he advanced on goal.
Having congratulated the boy for “falling normally” and not making a meal of things the Burnley boss went further claiming that the game at large would benefit from such an attitude.
He said: “The point is the bigger picture in football. I’ve been telling the referees they’re now giving dives for penalties and yet the lad actually fell normally, credit to him because he got a foot on the top of his foot, and he fell normally like a kid in the school playground.
“He gets nothing and gets booked for it. We’ve had people in our games dive ridiculously and get a yellow card. But it means nothing; it ain’t going to stop them from doing it!”
