Don’t panic! Hammers suffer narrow defeat

If you read social media last night after West Ham’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Burnley you would think we had already been relegated and we had the worst manager/ players in the Premier League. Burnley was always going to be a hard game and they are difficult to beat which is why they are pushing for a European place this season.  Sean Dyche’s plan to stop West Ham playing our game worked a treat and Burnley are one-nil specialists.

They frustrate you and soak up the pressure hoping to nick a goal on the break or from a set-piece.

I don’t think it is fair to blame Moyes or the team last night, they tried an attacking but Burnley was more organised and had the better luck in a game of small margins. Burnley were just better on the night.

The Clarets goalkeeper Pope was outstanding and possibly the best in the Premier League making at least two outstanding saves to stop the Hammers from scoring. It tells you everything that he was crowned man of the match.

Antonio was unlucky not to score and Haller was also so close with his first touch after coming on as a late substitute.

Perhaps the luckiest moment for Burnley is when James Tarkowski survived a sending off for raking his studs down the back of Jarrod Bowen.

Decisions like those change games and it was an early indication it was not going to be our night.

Burnley is a good team and Sean Dyche is a good manager so we shouldn’t be surprised they did the double over us this season.

It a game of small margins and we should not panic after this narrow defeat!

Norwich City will be a different game this Saturday and we should expect a different result with another three points closer to safety.
