David Gold has urged the lads to overcome the disappoint of failing to grab third place against Villa by lifting themselves into the top six by this time tomorrow!

The co chairman has watched the Hammers make a brilliant start to the season and is hoping against hope they can score a second successive victory over the Reds at the London Stadium.

If everything goes their way at Arsenal – where Villa re the visitors – and at Chelsea, where the visitors welcome Liverpool, the Hammers could,  with a win, take fourth place.

And Gold – speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh – said: “This is our best start as owners and it’s an exciting time for everybody.

It was disappointing not to get third place on Monday but it was another fine performance particularly with ten men and tomorrow there’s another big opportunity beckoning. A win would lift us into the top six and that’s another huge incentive.

It could even be better than that and a win over Manchester United is always a great moment. We are hoping for the best.”

He added: “We have a very good squad,  think, and there are some great youngsters coming through. These are early days of course but days we should enjoy.”
