McAvennie: “I like David Moyes but…

Despite our win in the first leg of our semi-final on Thursday and our defeat of Manchester United last weekend,  former Irons striker Frank McAvennie is still unhappy. 

In an interview with the lads at West Ham Zone he states that he is “baffled” that the team has played so poorly in the domestic league while shining in Europe, and says the season has been “awful”.

He said: “The league is the bread and butter. How can you win a European trophy and play the way you’ve been playing in the Premier League? It just doesn’t make sense,”

“It doesn’t make sense to me and I’m thinking you go and play that and they look as if they’re enjoying it and playing great football. Then you see them on the Sunday and they look [awful].

“The fans are not going to want David next year, they’re not. They’ve seen enough and had enough.

“Winning a European trophy can sway that and David knows it’s about the results. They’ve not had them, they’ve not been anywhere near good enough.

“Because I like him I’m being careful with what I’m saying. This year has been awful, a lot of it.”

Claret and Hugh says: Will he stay or will he go? Quite a few reports have suggested that Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season despite having another year on his contract, although some others claim  that winning the Europa Conference League would give him a stay of execution and still be at the helm for next season. Our view coincides with the great Macca. The difference in the games is extraordinary but as one or two new signings start to show form it’s getting better. However, we believe he should go as he is so one dimensional.
