David Moyes Bio
David Moyes has managed West Ham United on two separate occasions.
His first stint as Hammers boss came at a time of huge turmoil for the club with protests against board members, dissatisfaction with the London Stadium and general unrest. Moyes was in charge for the infamous Premier League game against Burnley which saw mass demonstrations under the directors box and pitch invasions by unhappy fans.
“In His Element” | Moyes Perfectly Placed as Everton Job Looms
David Moyes’s time at West Ham United was a mixed bag. While he achieved significant success, his tenure was also marked by inconsistency and criticism. His departure from the club still remains a controversial topic among fans. A large amount of the fan base felt like he was actually given too long as manager, while […]
“It all Makes Sense Now” | Moyes v Steidten Revelation
The report that West Ham pulled out of a transfer deal for Youssouf Fofana in favour of signing James Ward-Prowse was an intriguing story. However, the revelation that former Hammers manager David Moyes undermined director of football Tim Steidten was by far the most fascinating aspect. Time seems to pass quickly in football, and it’s […]
“Be careful What You Wish For” | Steidten’s Incredible Transfer Window
It seems like an awfully long time ago when former Sky Sports pundit Richard Keys called Tim Steidten a “sneaky weasel.” Keys, a staunch supporter of David Moyes and chairman of the “Be Careful What You Wish For Association,” was evidently affronted that West Ham’s director of football and head of recruitment was doing his […]
“Let it go Moyesie” | Former Boss Takes Swipe at West Ham
One of the worst quotes I’ve ever heard from a West Ham manager was when Big Sam Allardyce remarked, “The West Ham Way, what’s that? Losing?” Whilst not quite as crass as his suggestion on the anniversary of Bobby Moore’s passing that he always considered Moore a Fulham player, it was still a calculated jab […]
David Moyes: “I’m willing to change!”
Somebody in European football had a wicked sense of humour, arranging the appointment of former Hammers Manager David Moyes as a UEFA technical observer at Euro ’24 to: “See where the future of football is heading“. Pity us, the West Ham fans who had to suffer rigid, defensive and dull football from a bygone era […]
David Moyes was employed by West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold to help rescue the club from Premier League relegation following the departure of Slaven Bilic. He signed a short term contract until the end of that current season with a reported £2m bonus in the event of retaining the clubs Premier League status.
Moyes managed to steer the club to safety at the first attempt but was released at the end of his contract as the club sought more attractive football in the form of Manuel Pellegrini.
Pellegrini was not as successful as the club hoped despite being allowed to break West Ham’s transfer record twice and eventually replaced with Moyes. The returning manager was once again charged with saving the club from relegation, which he did.
At the time of writing Moyes has taken West Ham to consecutive European football campaigns following 6th & 7th place finishes in the Premier League. West Ham reached the semi finals of the UEFA Europa League losing to the eventual winners Frankfurt.
Despite exceeding expectations Moyes has continued to have a fractious relationship with the fanbase, who have found it difficult to warm to his defensive style of play.
At the beginning of the 2022/23 Premier League season Moyes was given £180m transfer budget to spend on players.
