Hammers Europa hopes fade

West Ham United were handed another boost in their quest for European football as Manchester City thrashed Brighton Hove Albion 4-0. Phil Foden led the rout as Man City put pressure on Declan Rice’s Arsenal with a thumping win at The Amex Stadium.

The South Coast club are now four points behind The Hammers in the Premier League standings, although they do have a game in hand. It does seem that the majority of midweek EPL results have gone in West Ham’s favour, but it should be noted that a resurgent AFC Bournemouth team are only three points behind.

Due to the Premier League teams poor performance in European competition this season, the UEFA coefficient rankings mean a top seven finish will most likely be required for Europa Conference League football next season.

Hammers Europa hopes grow as West Ham hope to have more European memories next season

West Ham will have to be at their very best for the remainder of the campaign due to an unfavourable goal difference. The Hammers horrendous defending has ensured that David Moyes boys will not be in contention should they finish on equal points with any of their Euro rivals.

Of course, it will all be irrelevant if West Ham fail to beat Liverpool at The London Stadium on Saturday for what should be a fascinating encounter. Both Jurgen Klopp and David Moyes are expected to leave their managerial posts at the end of this season.
