A spate of reports in both the national press and Hammers fan sites reported yesterday on a story which was mostly speculation regarding former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd and an incident at Marseille airport, suggesting the Moroccan international had been the subject of an ‘attack’ from a fan with whom the encounter her turned nasty.

Having decided not to rush and write the story yesterday it turns out that the ‘incident’ was perhaps not all it was suggested and fortunately, Nayef Aguerd was unhurt in what seems to have been a quickly forgotten episode.

Former Hammers defender Aguerd uninjured and moving on from airport altercation

Apparently Aguerd confirmed the ‘attack’ was nothing to write home about. Finally today, some sense-somewhat surprisingly- in the mirror.co.uk when the facts were clear:

“Former West Ham United star Nayef Aguerd has said the attack on him at Marseille-Provence Airport was “more fear than harm”. Possibly with the international break upon us ‘news’ was in short supply and so zealous writers leapt on the story: In any case all’s well that ends well for Aguerd who was able to catch his flight after the ‘incident’ without medical assistance.

Last word with Aguerd:”Fortunately, it was more fear than harm, and the situation was quickly handled by security personnel and the police.”“Everything is now under control. I’m fine, and I’m focused on what matters most to me — playing for OM and representing my country with pride”

Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
