It’s par for the course for most to come to a conclusion about a team’s seasonal chances after 90 minutes of action. By and large it’s what they are paid to do.
And the more controversial they can manage to be is always the watchword on the tabloids in particular even if it does sometimes involved stating the blindingly self-evident.
However, it is interesting to visit the wider world and for the record and for us, the Guardian probably gets closest to the truth of the situation – let’s just hold on and wait and see!

Nineteen minutes was all it took to dampen any pre-season optimism West Ham had. After a record summer splurge, things were supposed to get better. But for all their extravagance in the transfer market, this was very much a stark reminder that West Ham’s problems will not disappear overnight with a sudden wave of cash. Defensively, they must still learn from immediate lessons. Too often the played into the opposition’s hands. They were too exposed and Liverpool provided plenty of early warnings well before Mo Salah opened his account for the season.
